just needed some advice on a mod i need to do
Its real simple guys. Basically I have a Ram quad cab and the Side steps/Nerf bars are the chrome with black plastic steps im sure most of you have the same. I was wondering i want to paint them all black to give the truck a better look. Being that the fender flares tool box and bull bar are all solid black. Do you think a spraypaint will hold? If not what should i do to get them all black as well? Don't really have the time or money to order a new set of all black powdercoated ones. thanks Matt
You can pick up cans of rhino-lining from your local autozone for about 5 bucks a pop. That should hold up nice. and it looks pretty good. I did that to my friends toolbox, cause he hated the chrome, and it looked really good. Plus if you do that, you will have a little extra traction all over the bars.
From what ive been told...
any Rhino Lining wont hold all that well to anything chrome, because of the nickel in it.
If you choose to Rhino Line it, im guessing your best bet would be to scuff the **** out of it with a grinder or some serious sandpaper.

If you are going to Rhino Line it, I would bring it to a professional installer. I don't even think they sell true Rhino Liner in the stores. If you bring it to a pro, they will do all the prep work correctly, and guarantee it.
If he's willing to spend the ching to have the steps professionally Rhino Lined, why not just bring them to a powder coater? Probably cost less & be more durable.
I had all black bars put on mine when I bought them. I love the look. The dealer was going to install chrome and I told them if they can't find black I do not want them.
Have them powder coated! That would be your best way. You should be able to get it done for around $50 bucks.

scuff the hell out of it, spray it with either wheel paint, or grill paint. the grill paint is probably the strongest **** you can find.
i meant the paint for bbq grills, not for truck grills...or teeth grills
