35 gal. tank swap questions
ORIGINAL: tanker001
I tried to look on the dodge.com config site to see if it was an option. The 34 gallon tank is an option on the 1500 QC shot bed 4x4. However I did not try every combination of engine and such.
I also have the smaller tank on my 08 and remember rolling under the truck and wondering if it would be worth the upgrade. I also wondered if some setting in the computer might need to be changed when adding the larger tank. the larger tank (I imagine) might effect the trip computers DTE tracking.

you are required by law to have the dealership change them, at least in PA. if you trade it in and the computer system says that it has a 27 and there is now a 34, unless you show paperwork showing that a dealership swapped them, the dealership is required by Department of agriculture, Department of highway safety, and department of transportation to call the police and have you arrested. it is really stupid. i have a 06 1500 QC Big horn Edition, it came with the 34, my buddy has the same truck as mine except his is not the big horn, and he only has a 27. so it will fit but i strongly urge you to check with state and federal laws first! beside you need the additional tank straps which are only like $25.00.
The 26 gallon tank is standard on 1500 Regular and Quad Cab short bed models. 34 gallon is standard on 2500/3500 Quad Cab short bed models only, and all Mega Cab models, and an option on 1500 Quad Cab short bed only. 35 gallon tank is only available on long beds. (Taken directly from the Ram pamphlet the dealers give out).
Has it been done by anyone? i have been considering it heavily and even found the larger tank for it but wanted to hear from someone that has addressed all the issues discussed in this thread successfully...

As for bigger tanks in PA. What part of PA are you from? I lived in PA my whole life and have an ASE master mechanic certification and a PA inspection license. I have seen after market fuel cells that are perfectly legal as well as beer kegs that have been converted to gas tanks as well. I have never heard of that law you are talking about...
