If your truck is an '05, it doesn't have MDS, so 5w-20 may be a bit thin. Auto Zone "don't know diddly".

Thats true sos... which is kind of why I wanted to change at least the diff (because of the known C-Clip problem)

And Mike, thanks for the approx values. I plan on taking it in to get the tranny fluid swapped because I hear it can be kinda hard. However, I want to do the diff myself.

Yes it is a 2005. My manual says 5w30 for the 3.7L and 4.7L, but 5w20 for the 5.7L

The shop manual on an '05 specifies 5w-30. The rear diff is shown to be 72 oz of synthetic, plus the four oz of friction modifier.

You can save as much as a c-note changing the tranny fluid yourself. It isn't hard, just messy. Get a pan gasket, eight quarts of fluid, and the flat filter. You'll need a catch pan, and a lot of newspaper. A torque wrench is almost a must.

Thanks for the info Mike. I will talk to my father about possibly helping me with it, as I would have to use all his tools if I tried to do it.

Ha, it all depends what you plan on doing. If you do a proper pump/flush, my tranny took 20 litres to completely replace the fluid.

The 7 quarts listed above only freshens up the tired fluid with some new stuff. It holds more than that.

If u use RP in the rear, you don't need no friction modifier.....But otherwise, its the whole little MOPAR bottle, I can't remember the volume of the bottle, but I could check my manual if you really need it. I know I read it somewhere in there.

Also, 5w20 is recommended by the dealers here in Ontario. I have an 04 1500QC HEMI

I believe the friction modifier is 3oz.

Might vary by year, but
*** With Trac-Lok add 118 ml (4 oz.) of Limited Slip Additive.

Default diff fluid interval

Don't know if it's the same with your 05 vs. my 07, but the heavy service schedule (I have to follow it because I tow almost every day) says to change diff fluids every 15k. I THINK it's twice that if you use your truck lightly. Either way, you're due to change the diff now.
