I've got a 2008 4.7L Quad Cab 4x2 with the 3.55 rear end with anti slip, ESP and factory tow package. My trailer is a 2000# 18' PJ tandem axle with car hauler with twin electric brakes. Mostly I tow my '29 Model A that weighs 2500#. I have a '59 Buick now that is about 4100#. I know this will be close to the limit of the 6300# that this can tow. Will it handle it OK for the trip that I would make about once a year to a national or regional meet? Any other mods I need to do? One thing that has me stumped is that Dodge's website for towing stops at the 2006 model year and the 2008 4.7L has 30% more horsepower and 10% more torque yet they haven't updated the ratings.
Thanks, I fully expect to have to turn the OD off and turn the tow/haul mode on. I would have liked to have gotten the 3.92 gears but they didn't have any on the lot and they were giving these '08s away at almost 1/2 off sticker. I will only use it to tow the big cars rarely so it didn't make sense to be running around town in a big 2500. This will pull my Model A and '69 Dart with not problem as they aren't that heavy, its only the '59 Buick and the '56 DeSoto that are the beasts.
Whooo-wee! That puppy's gonna burn some gas. Unless you plan that 1500 mile trip to take many days, I'd suggest a deeper tranny pan and diff cover, as well as an additional tranny fluid cooler.
They do, but that seems like a pretty big load to tow. 1500 miles at near-capacity is gonna generate a lot of strain and heat. I think I'd even consider an engine oil cooler, too. Don't forget the deeper tranny pan and diff cover. Good luck, and stay in the right lane. :-)
I have towed a U-Haul car trailer with my 2200lb Factory Five on it for 450 miles using a 2004 V6 Montero with no ill-effects. I wouldnt think twice about using your truck to pull that kind of a load once in a while

If you can get the torque converter to lock up with overdrive off you will lower the trans temps a ton. My '08 is the first truck I've had with this trans so I'm not really any help as far as making the lock up happen but I'm sure someone has done it.
