Default Smoothing out a 2003 2500 ride

I have an '03 2500.

I've put 315 70r 17's on it (BF Goodrich KO's) and it rides really rough. Truth is, it's always ridden rough as it's a 1500 .

Question is, do any of you guys have experience with different shocks or "what not" that may give me a better ride.

I've seen adjustable shock, but know very little about them or even if they would work.

TIA!

Phil

It can't ride as bad as mine...i'll tell ya that much. Mine shimmies over small/medium bumps like no other...it's the worst riding truck i've ever been in and it's only a 1500 2wd. I still love it though...for some unknown reason

It wont help your gas consumption but try adding some bags of sand into the bed - cheap enough to try and you can make a kids sandpit if it doesnt do the trick!

I ordered a Rancho steering stabilizer last night. I hope that will help the wobble somewhat.

Default soften it up

Phil,
I'm a little confused, in your top post, I read that you have a 2500, but in the first section you say 1500.

I'll assume you're driving a 2500.

To soften the ride, for not a lot of money, simply remove 1 spring leaf out of the spring pack in back. (This softens the ride, but you no longer have a true 3/4 ton rated truck.

Then change out the front coils with ones that are progressive or a lighter (smaller) diameter wire guage. This will make the entire suspension package more compliant, but you've also lost the 3/4 ton rating.

Now, if money were no object, I'd send you to Kore racing, they build aftermarket suspension packages for dodge 3/4 ton trucks, and there are several to choose from.
The down side is they are expensive, but also well made. The system is progressive so in gets stiffer as its compressed to allow better overall stability and driveability

Here is a link--if you're interested------http://www.hughesracingco.com/index.html

Hope this helps get you started in the right direction

Thanks Gonefishing....yea, typo on the 1500 part.

I'll check out the link you gave. I bought the truck to pull a horse trailer that we no longer have. I'm not really interested in making it a 1/2 ton as I could simply trade it in...I like have the 3/4 ton, just in case.

Really sounds like theres not a lot I can do. Maybe reduce the tires somewhat...

Again, thanks for the link, I'll check it out!

I run my Toyos 35/25 front/rear when I'm not towing. they are E rated, so they can take the low air pressure. It sure does help with the ride comfort. I ran the 315/70's BFG KO's when my truck was stock and I thought the truck rode pretty smooth. What pressures are you running at? Besides that, if you want to keep the cost low, I'd say go with the KORE Recon system, comes with Bilstein 5100's, and will vastly improve the handling and comfort of your ride. As mentioned above, contact Jason at HRC or Jeremy at Desert Racing Concepts.
