Speaker Replacement
Hey guys,
New to the forum with an 08 1500 QC. I have the basic sound system, 4 speakers, and looking into replacing the speakers for a start. I got onto Crutchfield and they say that a 6"x9" will fit in the front doors and a 6.5" in the rears. Can anyone verify that a 6"x9" speaker will fit in the fronts? Or does it require some mods?
I tried the search function already and didn't find anything. So thanks in advance!

6x9's fit in the front, the set for the back doors require some mods. I replaced mine with 3 way pioneers and it sounds way better. Crutchfield is the best place to get them too, with free installation instructions and free wireing harnesses, so you don't have to cut anything up! Oh yeah Congrats on the truck!

no stock size is 5 1/4 but with an adapter plate the 6 1/2s will work fine. an adapter plate should come with the speakers, at least it did with my alpine type-r speakers. i put 6 1/2 componets in the front and 6 1/2 coaxils in the back.

A subwoofer with stock deck is a PIA because it requires you to run your own remote turn on lead, as well as use a Line Output Converter to send audio signal to the amp. After all of that, you still lack the control over your subwoofer's performance that you would have with a nice aftermarket deck.
I could write a book in response to your inquiry; a lot of factors come into play. I recommend sounddomain.com's forum for good info on sound systems. You can spend hours there just reading, not even posting, and learn a lot.

I've been in the audio field for years; I'm only stating that so you know my response is one of experience and not just something I'm pulling out of my ***.
Oh and those 6x9s will fit, as long as you take into consideration depth issues. For example, the infinity kappa 6x9 has a basket that is too "beefy" to fit into most 6x9 locations, and in the case of the ram, its magnet would interfere with the window.
Upgraded speakers with factory radio is a big waste of time. You're looking at negligible differences in overall sound quality and SPL. Its kind of like upgrading your transmission for a bigger engine but then never adding the bigger engine. Good sound (and im using the word "good" loosely, because some people think stock is good, and thats fine) is something that is really only achieved by upgrading all the system's components. For best results, upgrade your deck, do some research on component speakers and amplifiers.

I had no clue of all that you just told me. At least I didn't go and buy the speakers, ha ha. I guess i'll wait till my free Sirus radio is done then i'll replace the deck.
I installed cheap Walmart Sony Explodes and they are much clearer than stock. 6X9" fits the front doors and 6.5" bolted right in the rear doors without having to drill a 4th hole. Just used the original 3 holes.
