Default Diff fluids

Hello all, newbie here but still have a question. I am getting ready to change the diffy fluids(amsoil) and wanted to know if I filled them until they spill or do they get a specific amount. I did the fill to spill on my 04 Durango(as was roccommended by a dodge service tech friend of mine) and within 2 months both rear axle seals were leaking. Dealer fixed under warranty but said it was because axle fluid was filled to much and was supposed to get a specific amount. Thanks for the info all.

I've always done the fill to the bottom of the hole method in every diff I've ever had. However, if in doubt, grab the owners manual and use the amount listed in the capacities section...
