Minimum Wheel Size and Maximum Tire Size For 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4
I recently purchased an 08 ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 laramie.
Although the 20's with 33" street treads are nice looking and sporty......I would like something with a little more rubber and an aggressive tread pattern. Most of what I'm looking at either doesn't come in a 20" rim size and/or would be the wrong size tire.
My question is three fold. What is the minimum wheel size I can run? What is the stock back spacing on the 20" wheels? What is the maximum tire size I can run without a lift. I bought it to tow around my lifted toy and also don't want to affect towing.

I can give you two of the three. 17" is the smallest diameter wheel that would clear the calipers and a 33" tire height is the tallest, and about 12.5" diameter.
I could look up the specs on the stock 20" backspacing, but then again so could you, but I'm sure someone will chime in with that answer soon enough...

I agree with Outlaws, 33" tires will look a lot better on 17's. Besides you own a 4x4, tires on 20" wheels don't offer enough flex or flotation to be much use off the pavement (unless your talking about BIG tires like 37"+ on 20" wheels)...
Here is a pic of my truck with 17x9 rim with 4.75" backspacing with BFG 285/70R17 the tires stick out approx. 1" past the body.. hope this helps..
