Default Bed slide-out done

I finished up my slide-out this weekend. It was pretty easy and cheap to make. All I used was:

48" x 75" of 3/8" plywood
12' of 2x4
20' of 2x6
6 rigid casters
some extra deck screws
some extra carpet and black paint
7 beers

If I made another one I would go with 2x4's around the side and middle instead of 2x6's and 2x2's instead of 2x4's on the bottom for bracing to take some of the weight off but it's not too bad as is. Total cost came to about $60.

Looks great, I did a similar setup twenty years ago. Had a F*rd diesel, long bed with a fiberglass cap. The slide out held my fishing poles, and other equipment while I slept on top if it on a pump up mattress for camping, or guns and gear for hunting...
Mine was left unfinished though, and was very functional, but didn't look anywhere near as nice as yours...

Nicely done. I'd be interested in how you accomplished the slide system, and how much weight it holds. Is it bolted down?

I did a similar design about 8 years ago for my old ram. I wanted it to hold the full weight at full extension of my fairly significant collection of tools. I used P1000 unistrut and unistrut bearing dollies to fashion a bearing based slide similar to full extension drawer slides you'd see in kitchen cabinets. It worked great but it was heavy as hell. and didn't look nearly as finished as yours. Mine looked a lot like an erector set.

Right now to keep it in there is a cable attached to the tie-down point at the cab end of the bed.

Also right now it is only rolling on the casters but in a couple weeks I'm going to get some extruded aluminum channels that will slide out for the wheels to roll on and give it more support when extended.

I think I'm going to rip the 2x6's down to 2x3 to take some weight off.
