lots of '08 questions
Hey guys...am considering trading my '06 Quad 4x4 for the '08 Quad 4x4. But I have some questions on the '08 models. 1. Does the '08 still have the 545 transmission or has it been changed to something better? 2. Does the rear suspension still have the leaf springs or has it gone to coils?(I know the '09's are going to coils) 3. And last but not least, has the blend doors been addressed? I have had my '06 in the dealer a couple of times for the blend doors breaking. Been nursing the truck because of the vulnerability of the 545 transmision and I'm out of warranty, and I do alot of heavy hauling and want to stay away from rear coil springs. Right now the dealers are practically giving away the '08s and I can't turn down the deals. Any input would be appreciated.
An '08 is virtually the same vehicle as your '06. All the changes will come with the 4th gen ('09s). Tranny is the same, which incidentally, Dodge trucks have ALWAYS gotten a bad rap on their trannies. I have always been of the opinion that we have the best engines across the whole product lines and the worst trannies. But I had a conversation with my cousin while I was in N.Y. on vacation last month who owns a fairly good size tranny shop and he says that since the 545 has come out he sees more F*rd & Cheby's in the shop then Dodge's, or at least 3rd gen Dodge's, he says he continues to see a lot of 2nd gens, but, 2nd gens are starting to get old and you'd expect to see tranny issues.
Might just be Dodge trannies are unjustly still carrying the rep from years ago.
If being out of warranty is your issue and you can get an '08 cheap (although with them selling for 1/2 of list, be prepared to have your feelings hurt on your trade allowance) I'd say go for it. You can't beat the lifetime warranty. Hell, I'd a done it for an '08 2500 (not a big MDS fan + I want to get back into a solid front axle truck), but I'm way too far into my '04 with all the mod $ I've got in it.
