Default Stock Infinity Amp questions...

Hello i have a 2002 dodge ram 1500... i have the factory infinity system with power amps rear the glove box and 7 speakers...

i installed a Kenwood in dash dvd KVT-627 which is 50Wx4 Maximum power...

now the questions...

1) which power will the speaker receives now ? the one from the head unit (50wx4) or the one from the stock amp (which is the power for each channel ??)

2) is it better i bypass the amp and go directly from the head unit to the speakers ? i think i will swap all the speaker, so no problem...

3) can i swap only the speakers leaving that amp ?

4) is it better i swap the speakers and i install a new power amp in combination with my kenwood ?

all help will be good... thank you so much...

hey i had the same problem. i swapped my stock unit for an alpine. you have to buy a harness the plugs into your radio and will bypass the amp in the glove box. if you try to wire it up without the harness, the head unit and amp will fight with each other. its best to by the head unit and have a pro install it. i have been installing stereos for years and i was completely baffled by it.

i disagree. i installed my pioneer no problem. just had to hook up 1 extra wire, but it was still on the stock harness for both the H/U and the car.

From the amp. 2 different best buys told me that the amp in the truck has a high level input, and it amps that.

i don't think so, not with a 50x4. the amp on my 2004 is a 240W amp, yours is probably the same.

3) can i swap only the speakers leaving that amp ?

This i don't know for sure, but i'm pretty sure you can. speakers only have two wires coming out of them, so whatever i heard about them having internal amps doesn't sound right. they look just like regular speakers to me, so i think it will work just fine.

4) is it better i swap the speakers and i install a new power amp in combination with my kenwood ?

depends on how much power you're looking for. if the stock amp is not enough for you, then you don't have much of a choice. The stock amp seems to be pretty good to me and my untrained ear, so if you're not going up in power, then don't bother. plus, if you do an external amp you'll have to get into the dash to do those speakers, and I imagine that will be a pain.

the front door speakers on the infinity system are components. you put a aftermarket speaker with a seperate tweeter for one you will on here bass and for two its on a different ohm rating so it will be alot quieter. The rear speakers are powered off the headunit. If you dont want to spend to much money leave the stock speakers in the front, the rear you can change out. When you start getting into changing speakers you will need a more powerful amp and it gets expensive. Put it this way my goal of just adding a sub and amp turned into $2000 in audio equipment not counting labor becuase I did it myself. And I don't have the best off the best of anything. I mean you can go low budget and get low watt speakers to be powered off the HU but don't expect to turn it up and sound good. If you have any questions on what speakers to get and what not ask me, I just went through all this stuff and I still am.
