Default Dodge Ram Exhaust question...again

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am so sorry to bring this up again but I really need some help from some the guys that have been around for awhile.

I have a 2002 ram with the 5.9 and I really want to do a cat back dual system for a nice sound without the interior drone- I like the flowmaster idle rumble but have been told that it can be loud going down the road. I have also been looking at a stainless magnaflow for about the same price.

Please help- no information is unless, I know nothing!! The other info is that I am not willing to take off the cat like one told me to do- I have to keep it legal!

Sounds like your mind is already made up. I have the Flowmaster setup and I love it. I love setting off alarms in the parking garage at work with it! lol!

I've got the Flowmaster 50HD, no drone, not real loud unless I get on it, but that's when you want it to be loud...

Magnaflow "flows" better, but I think the Flowmaster sounds better.

I have a flowmaster system and love it. There are some clips I have posted on youtube of both the 50 HD I had on it and the Super 40 I have on it now. If you want to give them a listen let me know and I can send you the links.

I honestly couldn't tell you if my flowmaster drones at highway speed, because I usually have my music up so loud I can't hear the exhaust...which might explain the blown speaker in the passenger door. But it does sound sick toolin' around town, especially when I get on it to express my displeasure with civics and their fart cans.

In most states altering your vehicles exhaust from stock is illegal. So in my opinion, do whatever you want since it will be illegal anyways and have fun with it.

I thought it was only illegal to alter the emission controls?

That's not true. As long as you don't move the cats from their factory location it's not illegal even here in **** california. Long tube headers for example are illegal because they move the cats...shorties aren't because they don't.

Any catback is smog legal but you could get a noise ticket depending on your state/county laws.

I wouldn't worry too much about drone with your engine...you may get a little at certain rpm's with some catbacks but unless you get distracted easily it shouldn't bother you.

Some chamber mufflers come with a mini resonator built in which may help. I've had magnaflows on many v8's other than my current truck and never had any drone...even though it's a straight-through muffler. I do get some slight drone now but it's from the MDS.
