shutter during braking
hey all, am new to this forum and dodge trucks in general. my truck(04 ram 1500 hemi qc) has developed a slight shutter during braking. it only happens around 45 mph. the harder the braking the worse it is. i took delivery of my ram on memorial day weekend and have had nothing but brake issues. so far i have replaced the brake pads( duralast gold) the antirattle clips and the caliper pin boots with new grease. beforte i picked up the truck the dealer sent it to goodyear for break work, they replaced the rear rotors but only turned the front, they also used cheap break pads.(they started squealing bad after 2 weeks). this is why i replaced everthing i did. i know it's not a stuck caliper pin as they were all checked last week and move freely. thanks for any and all advise, carl
Yep. warped rotors. The OEM brakes are terribly undersized and for such a heavy vehicle. It was the same for my '97 Cherokee and '97 RAM. Dodge's OEM brakes have exactly one heavy stop in them. If you ever have to haul it down from speed quickly the brakes are history. I installed an after market big brake kit and problem solved. It isn't cheap but it works. Try some of the after market slotted rotors, too.
