Exclamation More gearing questions. Sorry.

I want to change out my gears from 3.55 to 4.56. Do I need anything else other than the gear and pinion themselves? Also, my truck is a 4wd, so do I need to buy two sets of gears?

I'm driving a 4wd 03 Ram 1500 QC Hemi w/ 33" tires and a 9.25" 3.55 rear axle.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah, you need 2 sets of gears but they are different sizes for the front and rear.

You should also get the full install kits for each diff. Bearings tend to get scratched when taking out the old ones.

Do yourself a BIG favour at the same time!
Replace the dreaded stock LSD.

No correction necessary! You kids are learning, maybe it's time this old off-roader retire from forum life.

Front & Rear gear sets, master install kit and I'll add that Abarmby hit the nail on the head too, get a good LSD, Auburn or TruTrac, they shouldn't charge you labor to install it since they are setting the rear gears anyway and really doesn't take any real time when they are in there...

Can I hold off on the lsd for awhile, say a couple months? Also, do I need an lsd for the front?

You can add the lsd whenever you want, it's just you'll pay labor to take the rear diff apart again, that's all. Many people have open diffs the entire life of their truck, not many off-roaders, though.
A front lsd is not an option on a IFS truck, no straight through axle, just little CV's.

Looks like I'm back to giving advice again, there goes the retirement...

But you can put a locker in right, or does nobody make one for our truck..
like a E locker, or a arburn, or an air locker.. ?

Sure, in the rear, but only in the rear. It's what you trade for the smoother ride of an IFS truck. It's why all the serious rock crawlers & mudders have trucks with a solid front axle. 2nd gen 1500's were the last of the full size 1/2 ton trucks to feature a live front axle...
You want one of the popular true locker in the rear/ LSD in the front setups, or lockers front & rear or LSD's front & rear, then you'll need to step up to a 2500.

Or do what I did, Auburn LSD in the rear, WINCH in the front. You get great traction with one of those (provided you got something sturdy & within reach to latch on to)...

Make sure you also get the pinion factor re-calibrated when you change the gears...
