i got a locking tailgate handle for my truck. ive had it for about a month now and i was wondering how to go about removing the old one. do i have to remove the bed liner from the tailgate? or what? also my current handle has a chrome cover on it....can i pull it off the old handle and get like embelem adhesive and put the chrome cover on the new one?

 

I've never done it, but I think you have to take the panel off the inside of the tailgate.

 

Yep, remove the panel inside the 'gate -- 'bout fifteen torx screws. It's an easy project. Make sure you don't tighten the screws down all the way 'til they're all re-threaded.

'Bout the chrome handle cover... You may wind up wrecking it in the removal process. If not, it'll probably go on the new handle. I don't know.

 

You can use 3M automotive grade double sided tape.

Removing the handle is very easy. I got mine off and put a bully tailgate lock on, and done it all in about 15 min. Yes you will have to take the bed cover panel off. If the chrome cover comes off ok, you can use 3m tape to put it back on, it's the tape that came on it to begin with.
