If it does tranny damage I'm not going to be turning OD off
Actually that is the opposite, Turning it off is suppose to save your tranny during city driving. Just remember to turn it back on when you hit cruisin speeds

ORIGINAL: Drew

oh how I love my 6 speed

also to add a little to Techman's responce

when your engine is turning lower RPM's the pump in the tranny is pumping less fluid at a lower pressure which puts stress on the bands and clutches. also since less fluid is moving less fluid is going to the oil cooler which means temps in the tranny will rise.

so while you may think your saving fuel by turning lower RPM's you are also doing damage to the tranny when it is having to do alot of searching.

We are getting two different stories, so I dont know. or am I reading Drew's wrong?

Actually he is saying the same thing. When you have the OD off you run the RPM's higher, therefore having more pressure through the lines, which is good. When on, the shifting happens at the lower RPM's causing the problems on what he was saying.

Man I thought it was just me... but I was getting 250/tank in my 02 1500, then the temp got colder, and I swear I went down to about 210/tank. Then we had a nice week and I got back up to 240/tank... so the cold weather does affect the gas mileage? Let hope summer gets here soon!

Are you letting your truck idle for extended periods to warm up when it cold?

Well you may have me there... I have remote start But i'm pretty sure the bad gas mileage started before it really got cold enough to use remote start. I'll have to keep my eye on it.

I dont really let it "heat up" much, I let it run for a minute or so to get the oil flowing, but thats not enough to kill my mileage.

I just install a K&N 77 series, on my truck, this is the first tank, yield 370 mpg with out the K&N the truck yield 326.
and the 370 is driving 65 average occasional stomping on the gas, plus it was installed 33 mpg into the fill. I'll let you all know on the next fill.

That's 14.23 MPG if you have a 26 gallon tank. if you have the 34 gallon tank you got 10.88 mpg.

Basically the thing is OD off is the same thing as tow/Haul on this is why everyone is getting soo confused.
When you are TOWING you turn your OD off so to make things simpler.

City Driving = TOW/Haul ON = OD-ON
Cruising speeds = TOW/Haul OFF =OD-OFF

and secondly RAM owners DO NOT have a MDS(8 cylinder/4cylinder on/off thingy) only the HEMI's in the Magnum or 300C use the technology.

OK I can't remember the source but it was from Dodge, the MDS is not on the Ram trucks yet. But it is the works for 2006 models. If you go looking on the internet you will find it, as for the mileage its a fullsize pick up. What did you expect? I get roughly 12-20 mpg.
and I live in upstate Wa. If I find the source I'll post it on the MDS.
