Default Tire Clearence Question

Hey guys I am kinda new here. I bought a ram 1500 4x4 a little while ago and I am thinking about what I want to do with it in terms of modding it. I was looking at lifting it, but I have seen on several occasions that 37's don't work with our suspension? What is your take on that? I was looking at 37x13.5x17 Toyo MT's and am not a hard driver at all. I was just wondering if I would be able to pull that off without many problems. What lift would it take to clear a tire like that on a 17x10 rim? My next question is what type of lift would it take to clear a 325x65x18 Mic Thom MTZ on a 18x10 rim? I was thinking a 4in rancho but would I be able to clear that? I am willing to do some trimming if needed. Sorry about sounding dumb but the only way to learn is to ask questions I guess.

I would do a 4 inch suspension, and a 3 inch body lift for the 37's.

Yeah I figured that the 7in would clear the 37's, but what would it take to clear the 35x13.5x18's?

Stay with the 35's at the very least you'll wear out components faster with 37's between the extra weight and extreme angle you put the CV's at. IFS trucks just don't handle it well. I like the MTZ tire choice though. Need to know the year of your 4x4 as their is a difference between the torsion bar and coil over fronts to be able to tell you what you need to do to clear a 35x13.5...

I have a 05 4x4 SLT QCSB truck. I was going to mount them on MT classic 18x10 rims and I think that they have 4.5in of backspacing. I am not worried about the height of the tire, I just want a nice wide thread since that is what comes in contact with the ground anyways.

I forgot to mention that I was looking at putting a 4in rancho suspension lift under her to clear those tires. I am willing to do some trimming if it is necessary.

You should be fine, I have the same kit and the torsion bar front 4x4s (02-05's) seem to clear the upper A-arms better than the newer coil overs. I have the same suspension kit, you are gonna love it, and I used to ride it pretty hard off-road, it'll take a good pounding. I clear 35x12.5x17s easily with the MT Classic II's so I don't think the extra inch width is gonna cause an issue, if so, it'd only be trimming black plastic...

Well that sounds good to me. I have done some research and it appears to be the best kit, especially since it doesn't require any other modifications to exaust, drivetrain, ect. Is there any other lift kits that you would reccomend?

Hammer I was curious about how long 325x65x18 MT MTZ's would last with 80% PSI and mostly road driving? I am looking at either those or the DC FCII's. I might still go with the Toyo MT's 35x12.5x17 because those are almost the same width of the MT and DC 325's. Any info would help on this because I would like to do MT's but I would like them to last around 50K.

I love the MTZ's but since when I go up to my place from my parents, it's almost 380 miles each way, about 50% Interstate, 40% Highway. So that's a lot of 70+ mph driving on pavement. I did the FCIIs because they are a hybrid between an A/Y tread and an M/T tread. You get the fairly quiet ride, super long wear and handling of an A/T but the outer lugs and sidebiters of that of an M/T so I can still work around the farm, deer & hog hunt with the boys in the back woods and go 90% of the places that guys with the claws and boggers go.
If you are going for long wear, smooth on pavement, but still be able to "play" on occasion, look seriously at the FCIIs. Both the MTZs and the Toyo M/Ts are very good, aggressive tires, but will wear on pavement considerably faster.
