Too Much Timing????
So I went out last night and did some DAQ runs with my superchip. One of the criteria that I logged was timing advance. Just as some background I am running the 91 tune with 93 gas and the mods listed in my sig. Anyway, when I checked the data after I downloaded it I noticed that my timing advance was as high as 47*. This seemed like way too much to me but I was looking to get some other opinions. Also, when I run the truck with the 91 program installed, the engine pings a good bit and when I go back to stock the ping is gone. Has anyone else ever have this happen with their superchips? Any ideas as to what this could hurt if I continue to run it like this?
I thought of that but when I reset the truck to stock, the timing was much less advanced. It seems like the superchips is doing something weird ever since I updated it bc I never had this much timing even with the superchips and power wire in combo.
well the SC is not advancing timing when it is in stock mode. the power wire is a "dumb" way of advancing timing, you just tell the truck air is ~20* colder than it is, and that usually isn't a problem at all by itself because it isn't advancing too much.
The SC in performance mode is a smart way of advancing timing safely and should push further to your knock/ping limit, but stack on a "dumb way" and lie to your SC, which is already trying to advance the hell outta the timing, and things might be bad.
I wouldn't even have worried about it, but you'r noticing a ping, which indicates the power wire or SC advance needs to go, but the SC is a much smarter way of doing it.
