Default Point of a LSD?

I got stuck in my Driveway. Instead of sending power to the wheels that grip,, it all goes to the ones that were slipping.

This is extremely aggravating, and I dont understand how having a LSD helps at all.

I might as well have a 2wd low rider.

What is the point of LSD??

Is a locking Diff, even Practical, with my IFS?? Cost wise??

I should of gotten a POWER WAGON!!!!!!!!

the lsd makes both wheels turn at the same time which is at least how mine is.. i'd love to know how you managed to get a 4x4 truck stuck in a driveway.....

the limited slip differential designs vary a lot

almost any LSD will improve the launch at a dragstrip

The designs like the Torsen or TrueTrac worm gear LSD are judged best for low speed use in slippery pavement, but you must train yourself to use a little brake pedal pressure

The full locking differentials (Elocker, Ox locker, etc)
when used at low speed by a skilled driver can approach the off roading capability of four wheel drive without LSD's

I'm guessing it's a stock Mopar LSD? If so, it's crap. I don't really like a locker in a daily driver, even if it's has two true axles. A good aftermarket like and Auburn or TruTrac would make all the difference in the world.

The drivers side wheels were in the ditch, on wet leaves/grass, the passenger side wheels were on the gravel driveway.

I was backing down the driveway with a 8x20 trailer loaded with wood. The trailer slipped and started to go in the ditch, and when I tried to go foward slowly, it ended up pulling me in the ditch.

So I unhooked the trailer and tried to go foward and the wheels on the wet leaves just wanted to spin. I wasnt caught on the frame either. It took a little bit to get it out.

I didnt know about applying the brakes,, thanks for the tip

I bet the lds wasnt engaging.....if the 2 wheels on the gravel were spinning also, it might have interpretted that as 4 wheels slip. it will engage when there is significant difference between the tires, but if you werent on the frame, the wheels did have resistance, even if it wasnt much

Next time, try a little dab of the brakes.
This tricks the LSD a little and torque should then be applied, to both the wheels.

As can be seen you are only transfering less than 200 Ft/Lb torque to the non-spinning wheel, if you are using the correct additive. It is a Limited Slip Diff, not a locker. And remember that our four wheel drives are really only TRULY two wheel drives( unless you have "Lockers" on both axles), one on the front and one on the rear with torque split between the four wheels. Try it sometime with two wheels from each axle on Ice, they spin just fine
