Default Tpms???

Okay, my truck came with TPMS. Can I run wheels and tires without putting in the TPMS from my old wheels? What would happen to the computer/ truck? Codes? Warning lights? No start?

Curious minds want to know...

The truck will self destruct.

Seriously, I really don't know. Most tire stores sell the sensors now.

i would think that the system would have an annoying reminder or a noise which would be worse, or light on the dash light up. But i would just get some new ones installed.. just me tho.

I agree..just go ahead and put new one's in, the computer will compensate regardless of size...it's only reading PSI, don't know what kind of codes would throw if you ran without them, i doubt anything bad...but better safe than sorry.

As far as I have been able to find out, if you are missing one or more TPMS sensor, the system just ignores it......If you have a TPMS sensor in a flat tire within the vehicle it will sense it...........So the sensors have to be present for the system to work.

If you swap your All Season tires for winters for example with no sensors, the system will not sound the alarm('s).Correction:- After reading what you guys have posted I asked two Dodge dealers, and contrary to what is in the Owners Manual they claim if a sensor is not present the Dang Alarm will kick off so if you have a spare set of rims for your Winter tires they had better have the sensors or your Alarm will sound off and light up.......I am going to contact Chrysler direct, and ask them if they can make a software change, so if you do not have the sensors present the alarm will not sound or light....Will post back the results in a new thread, as this one will be buried some where

Be careful with "after market" sensors as they have to match the frequency that your vehicle is programmed too, and regardless they take about 20 miles @ plus 20 MPH to reprogram the TPMS module.

Hope that helps

You might be able to put the factory one's in aftermarket wheels. If you don't have them in there the low tire light will come on.

Been there done that. I have 5 atlas rims w/Cooper STT's for winter. The light will come on and flash at every startup without the sensors. It dings at startup but just stays on after it is done flashing. Get used to it. Also get a digital tire gauge. I now feel like a NASCAR pit crew member. Have to check and adjust ALL the time. Hot weather, cold weather, especially towing-it comes on ALL the time even with the stock tires and rims. We tow a 30' toyhauler and the following seems to work-- 62psi front--60psi rear--65psi spare. After towing awhile it turns to 67psi front--67psi rear--65 psi spare. Remember a difference of more than 3lbs will set off the alarm--even 3.5lb will set it off. Yes the spare has one too.

I'm dealing with the same thing after switching from an 06' w/o sensors to an 08' with em. Any idea if you can deactivate the TPMS? I don't really care about the lights but would be cool to know if you could anyway.

For me the TPMS is a sore subject.... I have load D tires as I went larger for off road clearance to get to my house in the mountains. The newer D range tires have a lower PSI of a max 50 compared to older D range and have way enough weight specs for the 3/4 ton. Dodge will not help in calibrating the TPMS to allow for this so mine is useless as well as irritating. I have always watched my own tire pressure but I will say if something happens to me and my truck because of this not working - my family will be well off.

My Dodge mechanic said that soon there should be dead end plugs for the harness so that a person can disable the warning lights/dingers

yep TPMS is a PITA. I have to adjust monthly. I do think I will invest in a digital gauge like someone suggested. Mine has already been back to the dealer for a bad sensor that was leaking air. the sensors are integrated into the valve stem and mine leaked air so like every week it would go off.

also the TPMS is way way way too sensitive. mine is good to about a 2 lb diff and then it starts to tell me. dealer says that's how it is. TBH it's the only thing I dislike about my truck.
