Default Hitch drop?

Hey guys. I need to get a ball & hitch, but am unsure if I need a drop or not. I have a QC with the stock 20's, no additional lift. Do I need a 1" or 2" drop, or would a standard straight-out hitch be fine?

Thanks

It totally depends on your trailer. The tongue of the trailer should ideally be level or sloping down towards your truck. The tongue should not be sloping towards the trailer, since this puts upward pressure on the ball, and this could cause it to come off. Most likely you will need a decent drop because our trucks are pretty tall.

Yea like sos said it depends on your trailer. You can measure from the top of the reciever hole to the level ground...and from the bottom of the trailer coupler (that's level) to the level ground. The difference is the drop or rasie that you need..

My hitch does not drop any, and I have a 5x8 trailer with 15" tires. My trailer pulls fine. I have no trouble at all.

I agree with SOS and SeVeReDiStOrTiOn. Drop depends on the triailer tounge height when it is level. One you have this set, you may still need to use a load distribution hitch if the trailer weights a lot and drops the rear end of the truck. My trailer is 26' and weights 5200 lbs empty. I had to add this type hitch for increased stability by transfering some of the weight trailer to my front end.

It all depends. I measured how tall my trailer was, level. Then figured how far I would need to come down off of the back of the truck to keep it level. I needed about 3 3/4 drop. You can buy drops that can adjust too, but they are more money.

I see. Thanks for the input guys. Now I am starting to wonder how guys that own trucks can just own one size if it totally varies according to the trailer height, etc.

Hmm

most trailers dont vary more than 2-3 inches so if you have a trailer and get a hitch accordingly.....most likely a new trailer is going to be close unless you get some monster trailer or a mini trailer for that matter.
