Default Uh oh... possible 4x4 problem.

So this past Sunday I came back home from visiting my parents, (about 220kms) and had no problems at all with the truck. When I got home, I drove down the back alley behind the garage so I could unload a big tractor rim to be used as a fire pit. Anyways, I suppose I may have gone a bit to fast driving into the alley, because when I drove up the shaved curb, the rim in the bed of the truck bounced. I didn't really think anything of it until I pulled into the yard and stopped. When I put it into park, I noticed that the Serv 4x4 light came on. I turned the truck off, unloaded the rim, and turned the truck back on to go around and park in front. When I turned it on, the Serv 4x4 light didn't come on, but when I went around front and parked, it came on again. Then yesterday it was the same thing going to work, the light didn't come on until I parked. Also, when I tried putting it into 4 HI, it wouldn't change.

SO, I'm just wondering if anyone has had this problem and has any tips before I bring it to a dealer to get it checked out. I'd like to keep my wallet from being raped as much as possible haha.

Oh, in case it matters, its an 04' 1500 Hemi, QC SLT and 4x4 (obviously)

Don't know yet, I have to bring it to a dealer to get that checked don't I? And being so close to the oil patch here, people charge outrageous prices for anything to do with trucks.

I'm not sure if your 04 has the feature or not but on my 05 I can turn the ignition switch on and off a couple of times and if there is a code it will show in the odometer window. Check the DIY section on retrieving codes. It will tell you step by step how to do it. I would try it anyhow, unless someone else chimes in that knows the 04's won't do it, before getting your wallet raped!

Well I tried on and off, but didn't leave it on on the third time. I guess I'll go try again.

Just went out and tried, no dice, nothin but my odometer and the "Serv 4x4" which seems to be on all the time now. Tried it on both the odometer and the trip.

Autozone (or the like) will usually read codes for free.

The only place around here I can think of to read codes would be the dodge dealer, and I'm afraid to see what they'll charge haha. Relatively small town, so we don't have much.
