MPG Final Answers for 4.7L
my '07 gets about 11 in town and 17 highway and i baby it as much as i can. the in town is strictly in town, 2 miles there and back. when i drive a 50/50 mix i get about 14-15. can't drive 'em any easier than me.
my 02 2wd quad cab 4.7 gets about 20mpg on the highway on the steets it sucks! 13 to 15 mpg if im lucky i got the aim cai, throttle body spacer, flowmaster, jba shorty headers and superchips programer i use the cruise control as much as possible and coast as much as possible. on long highway trips it get incredible mileage roughly anywhere from 350 to 375 miles to the tank
i have a 2006 QC 4*4 with 38000 miles on the 4.7 and I get around 15 to 16 in the city and 18 to 20 on the highway if I go on a trip of more than 40 miles............I thought about getting exhaust and air intake but seeing all the results I might just have to rethinkl it
it would be a good time
to go test drive a 2009 Ram with the new version dual plug 4.7 v8
and have a few Ram fellow owners follow your test drive convoy style
in their older Rams with various engines ( 3.7, 4.7, 5.7, V10)
with FRS walkie talkies
or 'conference call cell phone' hookups
various drivers could report their MPG to each other
under more accurate than normal
same speed,
same wind,
same temperature,
same highway
you could even get GM, Ford, Toyota, or Nissan pickups in the convoy
that is
you could try this
if your local gasoline stations aren't being shorted on supplies

reminded me of the song Convoy. I love that song.
My 08 QC 4.7 has the 3.21 rear end and the 5-speed auto. I recently averaged 20.2 on a 400 mile trip. We were going about 60-65 most of the time. Not too bad. Around town, I have been averaging 17. I do baby it though. No need to step on it when you got to stop again anyway....in traffic a lot.
For the 2008 trucks window sticker EPA highway numbers were the same for the 4.7L and 5.7L. City numbers showed +1 mpg for the 4.7L over the 5.7L. That is the biggest reason I bought the Hemi, almost the same price AND the same mileage (at least by EPA sticker).
BTW, my Hemi was averaging 14.5 mpg mixed for the first 2k miles. Last tank showed 16.0 mpg, so hopefully that is continuing trend.
