I went into the local truck toy store to buy a CAI for my 2008 RAM. Looking at an Airaid product. I was told not to bother with the CAI as they do not work well here. The snow can get into the intake and hurt the engine.

Looking for some input from others if they have any experience with this matter.

You have to be running through snow banks to have an issue with a CAI.

 

I don't see how it could be a problem, it's just frozen water. I'm sure by the time it gets to the engine, it would melt, and would be about the same as driving in rain. Heck, I can't see how it could get anywhere near the engine anyways. Isn't that what the filter is for?

Dealer said that I can remove the standard filter and replace that drop in filter with the K & N.

RaiderJay6 had said that aslong as I do not run through snow banks I will be fine. Unfortunately its not out of the question to have 24 inches fall overnight . I also have a Dakota 4x4, and the bumper does plow through snow banks created by plows to get out of my road. Its fun, but cannot let up once your committed.

So maybe I just have to pretend to have a CAI and hum the sound of the CAI and put up with the sucky filter.

 

Check the design of the CAI's. Some sit up alot higher then others. The filter will help some but the sound of an actual CAI is awesome!

 

Even with 24" of snow, my CAI seems pretty far from danger, and it's enclosed in a heat shield, pointed towards the passenger side fender. I have a K&N on my 02 1500 QC 4.7.

Not wanting to repeat a poll that was done some time ago ( previous thread ) as that would be a waste of everyone's time, I will look at various manufacturers.

 

They don't know what the F%$k they are talking about! I would fire him! I drive through snow 7 months out of the year at 10,300ft in Colorado and have had NO issues! I have even plowed through some deep @$$ snow banks to get home! I have a K&N CAI and it has a good shield around it! You will have no problems as long as you aren't just getting some cheap CAI with out a shield!

 

There's also this option....put in a drop-in filter and just get rid of the "hemi hat" silencer. It's just as safe as stock but even with a cone filter I think you're safe.
