I got the Speedliner spary-in and I'm not too horribly thrilled with it so far. I ripped it in like 3 places in the little bit I've used the bed before winter. Awaiting spring to take it in and get them repaired...

 

I've had 2 rams with spray in liners. I wont have a truck without one ever again. The first was a full metal jacket. It was good. Very thick, but it got a little powdery on the surface and would smudge stuff. My new one has Line-X and it is great. They are pretty indestructable. I've hauled tools, furniture, firewood and even scrap metal and concrete and havent been able to do more than scratch it. The sanding the paint off is BS. THey just spray it on top of the paint. Soemthing nobody else has mentioned is what they do for ride quality. It dampens the vibrations very noticibly. The truck rides way smoother with a spray in.

 

Agreed. I did notice a difference in the ride after the spray-on was done. I thought that it had a little to do with the weight of it as well.

 

yeah, the weight helps too in a 1500 at least.

I've been thinking about buying one of those herculiner DIY kits to paint the rocker panels, my truck sees alot of time in the brush, especially during hunting season. Anybody done that? Would I be better off having LineX spray the outside too? It would also cover the big scratch where I got the bigfoot action across the front corner of a volvo last year...

Yup, go with a spray in liner and no they don't grind off the paint, they scuff it up for the spray liner to adhere better. Mine was hot sprayed on and not cold sprayed. It gives a much better texture finish and is more durable. So far I really like mine, I have carried wood and tools in mine and no tears.

 

They don't strip the paint, but according to Speed Liner (and Line-X if I remember, just can't find it on their site at the moment) they sand the paint to make it more adhesive:
