Default bed liner durability

I’m interested in a bed liner for my new truck. The truck accessory store doesn’t do spray in liners. They gave me the name of someone else that does. They did give me several reasons not to get a spray in liner though…

Spray in liners don't hold up long term.
Spray in liners will start peeling off after 4 to 5 years
If you cut a spray in liner, the repairs look like crap.

Traditional plastic liners protect the bed better
They are available with a rubber coating now
They are cheaper.

What is the long-term durability you are experiencing with your particular style of bed liner?

forgot one. he said they grind off all the paint under the spray in liner because it won't stick to the paint.

Let me know what is and isn't true... thanks

I like a bed liner myself ,I had one in a 84 Ford truck and when I sold the truck I put it in my 86 Ford truck, and when I sold that one I put it in my 89 Ford Super Cab. I just gave it away a couple of days ago. My new Dodge Ram has a 6 ft bed ,the liner was for a 8 ft bed. I;'m going to miss that old liner. the new one cost me $99.00 at top city and they installed it.

our dealer had it rhino-lined...damn that stuff's thick. As for scratching it, what CAN scratch it...I'm not sure even diamond could.

A place that does not do spray in liners recommended that they were bad? What a shock. I have had both a Rhino liner and Line-X liner in different trucks. I have also had a traditional drop in liner. After using your regular drop in liner, pull it off after a few months and look underneath. Rust, water, dirt, etc.

I have run shovels, pitchforks, forklifts, on my spray-in liners and could not hurt them. Plastic drop in liners will scratch plus the load slides around.

A spray in liner is the way to go.

Go with Rhino lining. They are the god's of lining and it will last as long as your vehicle does guarenteed. Trust me. [sm=smiley20.gif]

The line-x liner is actually the better liner. The rhino is a thinner application and I've known 2 friends who cut into theirs when moving home furnture. I had a Line-X in my Dakota and liked it. My Ram has a factory slip-in liner. I think if you're going to put heavy items in the bed, this is really the way to go. The ridges in the bottom of the liner provide structural support and protect the bed from being dented. The spray-on liners don't provide that protection.

Mopartodd has the best point so far. Dents are the big concern. A spray in liner won't stop a dent.

As far as rust underneath a drop in. What the heck is rust? We don't have that animal in central Arizona.

So, if I'm not worried about denting the bed, the spray in is the way to go... ?

Look around for a place that sells Diamond Plate Aluminum. It's light in weight, It looks good and it never rust. I found a place that sells two sheet of it for $200.00 and it comes in four by eight sheets.. They won't sell only one sheet. I got them last year and did the interior of my PT with them and had some left over. I made DP floor mates to match. I'll porbably do this again this spring for the hemi.
