I did exactly the above as well using a Turtle Wax rubbing compound and Regular Turtle Wax...LOTS of knee grease...I mean, ELbow grease.

I debadged the back of the truck yesterday and have some shadow, I have some Turtle Wax Tar and Bug Remover that I'm constantly putting on it to help get rid of the shadow...I'm going to get rid of the ram 1500 on the sides after school today. I got the adhesive off with some Carbuerator cleaner and it seemed to eat away at the adhesive pretty well but still required a lot of elbow grease, my hands are still sore haha. I'm looking forward to finishing the job up today though. Thanks for the tips guys I appreciate it a lot.
