Thumbs up E-Fan install done!

I installed an e-fan on my 05 Ram this week and I am done! I have a V6 with the 6-speed standard tranny. I found an immediate difference in acceleration. The truck does pull better. I found the flex-a-lite fan easy to install. I even reused the original shroud which made the install even easier. I bolted the e-fan directly to the radiator and the original shroud fit over it with no clearance problems at all!

I plan an underdrive pulley next!

Got info on the fan? Where bought, cost, etc.
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like a worthwhile project

I bought mine from Stylin Concepts. Cost was around $285 but seems worth the money. The fan came complete. The hardest part of the install was getting the old clutch fan off. I put two bolts in the pulley and then used a long prybar to hold it still while using a large wrench on the fan.

I have ordered an underdrive pulley to install. That should be delievered in about a month due to being backordered.

I found it easy to install. I have done shade-tree mechanics since my childhood. If you can use a grinder and other cutting tools to custom fit the brackets, you are good to go there. The electrical part is straight up! The instructions are very clear and precise. The fan came with crimp connectors which I used and have not had any problems with so far. Just be sure to crimp them real hard. The hardest issue for me was where to put the control box! I ended up taking one of the alum. brackets that came with the fan and custom fitting it to the control box and then mounting it next to the battery using the battery holder bolt. It holds it tight and it is out of the way. I'll post some pics next week.

The mpg issue will be factored this week end. I have a two hour trip to make. My baseline for my truck is 15mpg around town and 19 on the interstate. I will drive my truck like I always have and run her around 75 mph all the way. That should provide me real time numbers to compare to.

Nice it will be interesting to see your MPG. I have been on this forum for quite awhile and don't remember reading about anyone else with an electric fan.

Default e-fan update!

Well, my first interstate drive went well. Not too sure of the mileage. My first tank went 18 mpg. Not much over in-town driving, but I did push on my trip there. I ran 75-80 mph. Now I know that may not be fast for some of you, but I have noticed a big mpg decrease over 70mph! On my trip home, I ran 70-72 mph to see what the difference will be. I will post results as I refuel.

My impression at this point is that I would install the fan again if I had it to do all over. Just for the extra umph the truck has. Both take-off and passing other cars, the truck simply performs better.

I saw that you are planning an underdive pulley. I have the e-180 on my ram and also installed on underdrive pulley. I thought I'd let you know that electrical power will fall off at idle (down to about 9.5 volts) when the fan and your lights are on. As soon as you getup to about 850-900 rpm you voltage will come back up. Just FYI

with winter temperatures
and high fuel prices
this is an ideal time to do a MPG test
on a higway with two trucks
where one truck runs without its fan blades,
the first time around,
then the two trucks swap and the 2nd truck is the one
without its fan blades

hunting trips or football game journeys are idea opportunities
