Antifreeze
I have read a few posts from some time back and have questions about anitfreeze for my '02 ram. Specs call for HOAT and ZEREX makes a product G-05 approved for Chrysler. Reading some of the fine print warns about OAT not mixing with HOAT. I assume the G-05 is HOAT. Additionally I have topped off in the past, before I knew the specs, with Prestone (mixes with any antifreeze). Anyone think I will have problems? Maybe have added a quart or two of the prestone.
Thanks

even the ones that say "MIX WITH ANY COLOR"?
with the new antifreeze formulas like prestone it is safe to mix iat, oat, noat and hoat together without doing damage to your cooling system.you can mix clear, green, red orange, pink, blue and yellow together.the red and orange are so called extended life antifreeze for 5years or 150,000 miles
mixing wont turn it to jello. the aditives are diff in green and pink they counteract each other they you have no rust protection you can use ether on you want but you need to compleaty clean out the old stuff. the best thing to do is use whats recomended. dont make it hard on yourself.I would change it every 2 years no mater how long it's suppost to last
Thanks, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything to damage the components of the cooling system. There are so many things out there anymore and everyone wants their own corner of the market, it could be easy to go cheap and screw something up. I can't believe all the different formulations to keep your engine cool...seems like overkill to me.

interesting... i was told by a mechanic at the local dodge stealership that if i mix the 2 together that i would have a jello like plasma in my coolant system. i had to add some coolant when i changed to the 180 thermostat. big surprise that i would be told something like that by a "professional" huh? just one more reason i choose to do all the work on my own vehicle.
no jello I have seen them mixed they just turn brown and look like old coolant. when r134a came out they told us if you mixed pag oil and r12 oil it would jell up. that turn out to be crap also lol and I also work for a chrysler jeep dodge dealer
