Bearing cap wear= how long?
Hello all,
I have the typical LSD issues on my '03 Ram. I'm at 75K, and I have had the bits of metal removed from the bottom of the case. Upon my last fluid change, the mechanic noticed a decent amount of wear on the bearing cap, caused by the metal clip coming out of the clutch packs. I've seen pictures of what this does to the bearing cap and the differential case. I have decent pictures of what mine looks like. Has ANYONE really had the bearing cap wear enough to fail on them? My clutch packs are fine. I'm only talking about bearing cap failure.
Even though I came to the dealer with rear end noise prior to 70,000, they refuse to take off the rear cover, unless they hear noise. I only get it intermittently in 1st gear. And since I had the fluid changed at a local shop, they refuse to believe my story about the wear, EVEN with my pictures.
I'm not about to go yell and scream to get the dealer to "maybe" pay for something that is going to break again.
YET, I'm not in the mood to drop a Grand on an aftermarket differential.
What's the harm in waiting? I haven't heard any news stories of Rams failing and causing accidents. Or has the RAM not been out long enough or there are not enough out there to cause a ruckus?
Enough damage (the grooving) is done for me to need a whole new rear assembly eventually. What more can I break that won't be replaced anyways?
thanks for your help,
Mike
