is there something i can do or clean to get beter mpg's? 2004 ram 1500 4x4 5.7 hemi tires are 33x12.50-20 nittos and im only getting 9 mpg's in city and 11-13 hwy mpg's and buy the way it has a cold air intake and duals. im thinking i have read their is something i can clean. she only has 33k on her. i know i should be getting beter mpg's.
You're probably thinking of the throttle body. I've never done one myself, but I have heard a few people around here talking about it. Take it off your truck when you clean it so all the gunk doesn't go into your engine.
You don't have MDS on your truck. MDS is the "Multi Displacement System" which is on the 06+ HEMI's. It shuts off 4 cylinders to help with fuel economy when the engine doesn't need them (basically while you're cruising down the road at a constant speed).

well im gald i dont have that it sounds like crap but if your into having a big truck and only using 4 cly by all means i love stomping my 8 cyl.
Well when you stomp on it, all 8 are working. It only does it when you would be wasting fuel just to run all 8 cylinders, for instance driving down the highway at 65 for miles. I have it on my truck and I've never had an issue with power.
Big +1 on the TB, along with the EGR probably the biggest MPG robbers on a Hemi.
ok cleaned the tb it was prety slimy with what apeared to be black oil or something but where is the egr located. seems like alot to clean for only having 30k and getting poor mpgs

Keep a clean air filter (a lot of people with oiled or foam filters forget this) and your tires properly inflated. Driving habit plays a huge role also...keep under 2000rpms in the city and stay around 65-70 on the highway. I'd do a tune up too, she may only have 33k miles but she's also 4+ years old.
