Default Locking Fuel Door/Cap

Does anyone do anything to keep their gas safe from thieves? I have been thinking about getting a locking gas cap, but haven't at this point. I have seen Mopar makes a pretty nice one for around 20 bucks...

My understanding is alot of thieves stealing gas are drilling holes in the bottom of the tanks. If thats accurate, a locking gas cap does you no good.

maybe just a really tall lift kit, then the gas thieves can't reach the gas tank...unless they are part time ladder thieves.

Unless they are stealing gas in your neighborhood, I would not do it. It's just another key to have in the pocket and something else to do when you need gas. And like was stated earlier, they pop a hole in the bottom of the tank today anyway. Red

Too bad Dodge did not design a easier solution into the truck to begin with...a latch mechanism that opens from inside the truck...

+1^ That is the one thing I miss from my old car. I did buy the Mopar locking gas cap. It is easy to use and I think it is worth the 20 bucks.

I we have those on our Toyotas. And the way you guys are talking, if they are going to drill a hole in a gas tank, and they see a toyota with a latch mechanism you could simpley stick a screw driver in the crack and pry it open. I can see someone drilling into a Plastic gas tank, but not a metal one! If someone really wants your gas, they are going to get it weather or not you have any kind of lock. Anyways, I have a mopar locking gas cap, and I think it works well. About $20. Comes with 2 keys that say "Fuel" on them.

The dealers locking cap and the cap you can buy in the auto parts store are the exact same made by the same company...except the dealers cap comes in a box and the autopartss tore cap is 1/2 the price.
