Default RPM problems

what causes my 03 dodge ram 1500 rpms to drop down to 3000 when it reaches 3500 rpms while in park and in drive. it is a smooth transition, it dosent sputter. it only does it at 3.5k rpms and just drops to 3k. there are no other problems so far, nothing out of the ordanary. any suggestions on what would cause that

sounds like a factory rev limiter, but that would not happen in gear, or at that low of RPM.

done any mods lately?

I dunno which engine you have and i'm confused about what you're describing...but your throttle blade could be sticking if it won't rev past 3.5k rpms in gear. Out of gear there's a rev limiter at 4k rpms. Remove the throttle body and clean it with a CRC cleaner...
