Default motor oils

Hey , Im new to this site but not new to hemis or any mopar for that matter , just thought Id put my two cents in about oil. Castrol syntech may not be a pao based synthetic but if you still change your oil at 3000 miles like I do the casrtol is a very good oil. It fares better than Mobil 1 which is not a " true synthetic " any more. Look at some of the wear tests thats out there. I have torn some of my hemis down that has been run on syntech , still looked brand new after hard street and strip miles!

I have a buddy that runs Q horse power in a 04 hemi he says that it works good. All of the more common synthetic oils are comparable. Amsoil and royal purple are better oils but if you still change oil at 3000 miles I dont see any reason to pay more for them. My hemis I have had done good running castrol syntech and I run them hard , no wear problems ever.

OK, Lets say I go with RP due to easy access and I run a Mobile 1 or K&N filter, I understand that my first change I should do at 3k but after that if I go 6k with the oil should I change the filter at 3? By the way I have been running Casteroil Syntec 5w-20.

i'm not saying the filter is bad at all. I have an amsoil filter myself, and its been on there for about 6k now. but a filter only has so much filtering element, once its full, it has to be replaced, so a 12,500 mile garauntee makes me wonder. i don't think i'd be very comfortable letting ANY filter run past 10k at the most, unless its a significantly oversized filter.

i think you'll be fine going 6k on a mobil 1, k&n gold, wix, amsoil filter. i think wix has a 7500 mile rating, not sure bout m1 or kn.

To the guy who said Mobil 1 isnt a synthetic aka Group IV oil in America and Group III in Europe can you please back up your claim. Mobil 1 meets MB spec which requires fully synthetic oil for long change interval.

As far as oils go, I do plan upon changing mine sometime before winter gets in full force, but I found out that the oil I have in mine is actually 15w40. Will that do anything really harmful to the engine to change it now, or can I wait a few more weeks?
The only reason I'm asking is because I get that oil for free out at work, anything else I have to provide myself. I plan to eventually run Royal Purple or another good brand with a K&N Gold filter.
