Default What potenial problems with the 9.25 Light Duty Rear

Hey all on one of the other threads the question was asked "What is the worst thing about your 3rd Gen". Or roughly that was what was asked. One of the biggest complaint was the Rear Axles. Well I found out I have the 9.25 Light Duty not the Limited Slip Diff from my build sheet. It has the tow package and I'll be towing a cargo trailer with it and possibly a car on a tow dolly every once in a while . Is there really that much of a problem? If so what is the Pre-Fix to prevent and problems? I'm wanting to upgrade with a PML cover and the Royal Purple treatment but will this be a waste if it ends up breaking later down the road??

Thanks, H

Most, and when I say most I mean 98% of problems reported with the rear end are related to the POS factory LSD! Although the Chrysler 9.25 Light Duty is relatively weak compared to anyone's 3/4 ton offerings, as far as a half ton goes, it's a fairly stout and durable axle, I think comparable to anyone else's 1/2 ton offering...

Yep like Hammer says, it's the crappy stock LSD's that are the problem.
Not having the stock LSD fitted, you should be OK.

How long have they been using this rearend now and still haven't updated the LS?
I will be asking Jim Press when we have our chat later this week. Maybe he can answer why it hasn't been updated.

Thanks guys, I'm glad to hear that my rear axle is almost as strong as a 3/4's rear end. I'll feel better ordering my rear cover now. You woud think Dodge would have upgraded the LSD a long time ago, considering how many 3rd Gen 1500s are out there with them. Again thanks
