Ok i know all you long time forum guys hate tire questions but all the tires that were on the "what tires are you using?" thread are all great for the mud but most mud tires are not made for snow and ice.

So i'm just wondering what you guys would suggest for a good mud and snow tire?

And i i wanna go to a 285 instead of the stock 245 thats on my truck do i need a front end leveling kit?

I'm going with the firestone Winterforce studded this year. For the last 4 years I ran the Cooper Discoveries M+S studded.

 

see that you are in canada and cant imagine what kind of winter weather you get to deal with. i would guess that you would want studded tires something like seawind suggested. as far as clearance, 285s will fit without a lift, but just barely without rubbing.

 

I run 285/70R17 BFGs no lift with no rub whatsoever.

 

Why would you go with a wider snow tire? Typically you want a narrow snow tire so it will carve into the snow and provide traction.

 

I have also run Cooper Discoverer M&S with studs for the past 4 years on my ex truck (2 wd) and they have worked great. I just bought 2 for this truck in stock (245) size.

and there are also reviews of 3 dedicated snow tires
and two stud-able tires

 

i'm looking to buy on set of tires and use them all year long thats why i wanted to go with the 285 and really all i need is a tire that is good on compact snow so i'm hoping to to stay away from something studded. i also don't drive through deep snow so i don't think the tire width should be a problem. And just for all of you wondering about the winters in canada I live in Vancouver not the great white north our weather is very similar to Seattle.

 

I agree. I hate these stock tires on this pickup. We've had 2 snow storms already this fall and we've had about 4-6 inches of heavy snow. My pickup wants to head for the ditch even in 4wd. I had to swap to my old Ford (yuck, I even hate saying it) with 235/85R16s
