Default Warranty Questions..?

Hey guys! Sorry to throw up another post with warranty questions BUT my 05 Hemi QC 4x4 is starting to have some problems at 58,000 miles.

1. Noise coming from under the hood....It sounds like the idler pulleytensioner is going up. Sometimes it is fine and others it gets very loud. I am thinking this is where the noise is coming from because with the truck running I can put some pressure on the tensiner with my hand and the noise goes away. I also removed the belt and let the truck idle for a minute and it is quiet.

2. Rear end is leaking fluid pretty bad. It looks like it is dripping out of the front of the diff. It was like this when I purchased it. I figured if it got worse I could bring it in and they would fix it under warranty. I have never changed the diff fluid...I have only had the truck for 20k though and was getting ready to change it out.

3. The Ac does not always work. I know this will probably be impossible to diagnose because it only happend for a few minutes once ever few months. Is the compressor & related parts covered under the 7/70 powetrain warranty?

Thank you for any help/suggestions/comments you may have. I have never owned a truck before so I must say I am was somewhat ignorrant to 15k diff fluid changes and other things associated with the truck.

On a side not my boss has a 96' f-350 4wd gas truck (not a dually) that has 360,000 miles on the original motor and has never changed diff fluid ever ....

Default warranty

I could not see how the AC system would be covered under a power train warranty.

No warranty on the A/C bub, that's a 3/36kmi part and if the diff was leaking then you should have correcte it right away. Being that it was used when you bought it, you only recieved a limited warranty and your already past that now. Your pinion seal is leaking and is an easy fix for a shop, although it's something I would have the dealership change because if a garage does it and tightens the nut down too much, it alters the crush collar position and changes the pinion depth which can cause excessive backlash and clunking. That's the cheap way out. The actual right way is to remove the entire differential but is very costly.

Your going to have to buy a new tensioner pulley at local parts staor as that is an easy fix for do-it-yourselfer. Prob. like $60 or so. Maybe less.
I would have them diagnose your a/c system while there because it could be a number of variables. They have all the equiptment for that.

Also, your boss is a completely ignorant fool if he has never changed the diff fluid. Those things need more changes than an average vehicle because of the amount of stress they induce. He's lucky nothing has happened yet. I bet his fluid is like syrup in there and blacker than black and has all kinds of "silver sludge" from metal shavings.

No way he went 360k without a fluid change. He may think he did, but chances are that somewhere along the line that thing was changed as part of a routine service. Does it howl like a pack of banshees?

Since he has an '05, it may have had the transferrable 7/70 powertrain warranty. We bought an '05 Town & Country mini-van and it had the transferrable 7/70 powertrain warranty (I think it was $100 to transfer it). The '06's and up did NOT have a transferrable powertrain warranty.

The lifetime warranty is not transferrable.

so on the rear end dodges call for the diff fluid to be changed every 15k and the pan has a chemical sealant that will dissolve over time if not changed it starts with a small leak and it gets bigger over time. and if the dealer finds out you didnt change the fluid the wont warranty sh!* on that rear end cause of miss use or abuse. at least thats how it works in california.

When it comes to changing the diff fluids, I have to say this. I have had a truck of some kind now for over 17 years, and I have never change out the diff fluids. At one time I had a 94 Dodge that I had for 8 years, and when I traded, it had over 180000 miles on it without any diff fluids being changed. I don't know if this matters or not, but my trucks are never used for work. I have never been mudding, I don't pull nothing, and a run to the city dump about once a year is about it. So I know the rear of my trucks is not over worked.

I definataly paid the extra $100.00 to have the warrany transferred even though the sales rep would have been completely happy if I never brought it up. He even tried to tell me that they didn't have a 7/70 but I walked in with a carfax report on the truck I was looking at. I think I am going to take off the cover and inspect/change the fliud and then take it in. I don't care if I bought it used or not...**** leaking on a truck that had less than 40k on it and passed there tech inspection before they sold it to me is unacceptable.

I have talked to several other truck owners who have also never heard of a 15k fluid change. I am not saying that I am not going to do my best to take care of my truck now that I know but to say it is not out of the norm is rediculous.
