What kind of power can stock 5.7l handle for boost?
How much HP can the stock 08 5.7L engine handle if you put a supercharger on? My buddy tows horse trailers all the time and it's pretty hilly here in the Northeast. Instead of trading in for a diesel which he really doesn't want, how much power can the stock engine hack before it goes boom?
you can add 150hp if its going to be for occasional use. but if its for towing power and its going to be constant loading, 100hp is probably all he should be doing. if tuned right it can put him damn near 500 ft-lb of torque, enough to pull any horse trailer. though even now i can't imagine he's slowing down much over hills.
edit: he would also greatly benefit from re-gearing, especially if he has the 3.55

You know, I don't know what size gears he has. What do they put in the 2500's? He's got 17's. Also, he had just said it would be nice to go up a hill without downshifting constantly and jerking the trailer with the horsies back there. He does tow some yard equiptment around as well like skid steers and other heavy equipt. He was telling me that he towed the max weigth of 13k lbs and the truck was a dog. His friend past him without a sweat in his supercharged GM. They claim over 15klbs but that's with no passengers and no cargo inside the cab! They over rate their stuff all the time.
I think he should just get a diesel, but he said it wasn't an option as of yet????? I think he's hiding the supercharger expense from his wifey...aahahahahah She'll notice a new truck, but not the extra bolt on stuff that's under the hood.
I'll talk to him and see what he's got.

I just checked on Dodges websit. It looks like they only put in 4:56's on the 2500's. They have to make up for the extra weight compared to a 1500. I think it's like 1200+lbs
Check this out. http://www.rpmoutlet.com/ramhemistat.htm
You think they would sell something like this for a stock engine if it wasn't a safe level? at 50% increasethat would put the engine hp at 517hp

You need to check and see if the system can handle towing. I cant remember off the top of my head which ones can and cant (supercharger/turbo) but one can really screw your engine up if your not carefull. It has something to do with down shifting
With out redoing your injectors and buying a tuner the 5.7 hemi can only safely handle about 3PSI if your going to want more boost you will have to install larger capicity injectors and buy a programmable tuner like SCT

Alright boys, here at the Chrysler dealership I work for we don't see many Hemi engine problems, so that means the Hemi can handle ANY amount of power you throw at it. The only thing that might blow would be the chincy *** 545RFE transmission backing that Hemi...but that is only if you don't perform the routine transmission services, but if you do you're golden. And as for the injectors and superhchargers, the supercharger kits come with high flowing fuel injectors so there's no need to worry about that. If you do add a supercharger I highly recommend redoing your exhaust, because with more air flowing in, you need to make it easier for it to flow out. Although if you want to make a hell of a lot of power, I would suggest a hot cam, CNC-machined heads, headers, then the supercharger, 800+ horsepower there boys.
well, correct me if im wrong... but i dont think that is the case. my 2004 2500 came from the factory with 3.92 gears, as well as alot of other people's 2500s. the dodge power wagon comes with 4.56s from the factory.
He has the PowerWagon. I forgot to mention that. That must be why he has 4:56's.
Also, the ATI procharger kit I was looing at has bigger injectors and comes with a tune specifically for that set-up.
Either way there's a custom tuning shop only 20miles away. He doesn' want to get involved with head/cams...etc
As far as exhaust, he already has JBA headers and a full catback.
The only thing that should limit the power is the valvetrain primarily in the high rev but more so the internals like the rods/pistons. I don't believe they are forged. Most cast internal engines can only handle 500hp at the crank safely. That's what I have been under the impression of.
