Default Remote start?

I am interested in getting a remote start for my truck. I seen many for less than $100 for just the remote start. I don't need one that has power locks because that is already in my truck. Are they Universal? How hard are they to install, Can i do it myself? THANKS

when it comes to the electrical system, I don't fool around with it. Had my remote installed by a professional. A little expensive (approx $ 175.00) but I haven't had any problems in the 2 years I've had it.

same here. I got a Python remote start from Circuit City, it was around the same at $170 with installation included in the price. If you want to do it yourself I'm thinking they come with installation instructions in the box.

Does the Python system work well? Any Problems with it now or when it was installed?

Default remote start

i have the blackwidow remote start. It was $99.99 and the $39.99 for the thing that tricks the ignition to think the key with the chip is in it. I installed it myself it was easy just dont cut your wires splice into the when it comes to the ignition wires. The only time it got a lil challenging was having it work with the factory alarm because you have to use a couple of relays. If you are ok with having two remotes one for the remote start and one for the door locks then its easy to install

A few years ago, I bought one at WalMart, and installed it myself in a Sunfire...it was actually kinda easy and there was a video with it...I set up a tv/vcr in the garage and took my time....it took most of a weekend.

ohh it most definitely can be done. but expect it to take the better part of a weekend if you haven't done it already. did it in my camry. you can even tap into your locks and keep a single remote for locks and starting.

my problem is that the truck doesn't fit in the garage, and after spending 3 hours out there changing plugs, i'm not spending another weekend installing thsi in the coldl.

Mine was preinstalled on my truck when I got it. However, the ba*tard who had it before me kept the digital remote, so I decided to get that one for my truck. The remote was $110 plus tax & shipping. Then $80 some to install it. However, I got everything replaced on it, because it was done so half-as*ed. It was missing things. My mom just got one with only remote start, not the lock and unlock feature. It was $89 for the system, and $89 install.

jsut got mine installed today. $250 with integration into preexisting keyless entry, so just one remote for both. lifetime warranty. a little more expensive than can be had, but good for the advertised range (1000ft) and warranty i think. if i didn't put it in, i don't want to worry about it.

Nope. I've had it for about a year maybe a month or two more and no problems at all, it's got about a 1/4 mile range on it, I like it. I don't remember how long it took for them to install but my guess was around an hour or so?
