Preventative Maint the stealership wants to do
Ok, so here’s the story. I took my 04 1500 QC 4x4 into the shop for some warranty work; a leak in the already replaced front end….power steering. While it was there I got the usual call. “We found a few more things wrong with you truck that we want to take care of for you.” Here is a list of the things they wanted to do but I wouldn’t let them:
Rear brake pads - $270
Front brake pads - $270
Brake fluid flush - $145
Spark Plugs - $420
Throttle Body cleaning - $212
Power steering flush - $145 (this was done about a year ago when the whole front end was replaced)
Front diff fluid change - $204
Rear diff change - $204
Transfer Case - $65
These prices are outrageous! The truck only has 34K on it….do these things need to be done? Also, when I called other stealerships in my area they all had different prices by as much as $150. Is this normal?

LMAO!!
well, most of the stuff they are saying should be done at 30k miles.
but $204 for a diff oil change? go to the DIY section, a link is stickied at the top of the forum. you can do all of that stuff yourself in a day. m
y mechanic did the front diff for $30 plus oil.
Throttle body cleaning will literally take you 20 minutes start to finish if you are at all mechanically inclined.
plugs will take a few hours, but well within the capabilities of a shadetree mechanic.

the pads are easy to do. the plugs not that bad to do, the diff flushes, save yourself and do it yourself for $50 worth of fluid for both.
They just suggest it, some people do it, I see so many women just jump on the 30 or 60k maint packages, but if you got the money and your lazy why not.
