ive seen the 500's for both a "driving beam" and a "fog beam"
and yes i believe you can get a hid kit for your regular headlights but might need some modification not too sure havnt looked into hid too much but that picture looks like it might be worth it

 

those were hella 4000 cornering lights with a hid kit off ebay it would not be the same with 500s but still cool the best way i have seen on hid headlights were u dont blind people and r legal is to buy projectors that were dot approved so using audi,acrua,porsche and buying ballasts and reofiting ur old headlights with them heres a toyota tundra with hid conversion http://www.yotatech.com/f28/2005-tun...ogress-155478/

 

I found new Hella 500 driving lights on eBay for $40....LOL.....I bought them quick! i will be replacing mine with the ones I should have bought first. Cool....
