Default 03 4x4 Light on in 2wd?

After using 4x4 hunting i put my truck back in 2wd (Manual t case), and now the dash light says 4x4 in 2wd and no light in 4wd. What controls the light? Im thinking maybe a sensor on the shifter somehow got switched up? Im positive it's in 2wd now, yet the dash light says 4x4. When i out it in low range the light also goes off. Weird. Any ideas?

Have you turned with it when the light is on to see if it's in 4x4? If so and it doesn't have the jump, then it's in 2wd, and you must have a sensor. Out on the farm we have a front wheel assist tractor. The wires were loose in it, so it said that front wheel assist was on all the time, which is like this. So if you could find the stuff for that, coming from farm experience, we always wiggle the wires, and see if that doesn't help. If not, then someone with more technical experience can help you out on that one.

Ya i made sure it wasn't in 4x4. I also took a good hit to the skid plate by a boulder. I may have jumped the sensor somehow. I just need to figure out what controls the light so i can troubleshoot it a little better. Anyone know where i can find wiring diagrams for a 2003 Quad Cab 5.9l?

I do believe the switch is in the intermediate shaft housing on the front axle. Mine had a vacume actuator to move the shifting fork and engage the 4+4 light switch.

My vacuum housing had split so the intermediate shaft was always engaged, bad for gas mileage. It had not pulled the shifting fork ahead enough to switch the 4+4 light until I had it replaced. Yours might be "in" enough to keep the 4+4 light on all the time and keep the front drive shaft engaged all the time, but it will still be in 2 wheel drive until you pull the transfer case into 4Hi. This shift linkage is the only actuator for the 4+4 light, I can't think of any other reason the 4+4 light will stay on when the truck is in 2 wheel drive. This is the only idea I got....sorry
