You get what you pay for! The black tails are just like the headlights, they look super cheap. They look like spray painted plastic. I never liked the ricey look of CF.
I don't want to have to do any wire splicing! So I am looking for a plug and play for a 2005!

And I didn't ask if they were both ugly! I simply asked which one you liked best!

On M/Cs before I cut the rear out of the lights and made a backing plate with LEDs soldered in place. You can make really funky designs like that and your imagination is your only stumbling block. I once made a motorcycle tail light with the LED's arranged to form the GSXR logo! Everybody loved it and asked me where to buy it. Maybe I should go into business making that sort of stuff ?!?!?! Just food for thought! I didn't know it was your mounts that broke as I was just going to suggest those aftermarket alloy light protectors. I have never had any trouble with the mounts so I have never thought to reinforce them! Thanks for the info as I will have a look at mine tomorrow.

thanks for your input! And this is the second set of taillights that I have broke the mounts on! I am moving in a couple of weeks so I won't be driving on as many dirt roads so it shouldn't be a problem anymore! But I am ready for a different set of taillights since I have already gone through 2 sets of these!

No worries and thanks for reading my reply! I was thinking as I just don't have the time it would be cool if someone here could use my suggestion and build a set of LED tail lights with the Ram logo! I would buy them just for the novelty factor! It's not difficult, the most difficult part is either splitting the lights apart without breaking them ar cutting a slot in the side of them to fit the LED circuit board inside. Any takers? Maybe you could make some cash in your spare time selling them. Just a thought.

where in colorado are you from dodgenitto? i lived in boulder for 15 years.
and if you say you have been through 2 sets of those tail lights, you get what you pay for, they were only like $40? roughly? i could not imagine them breaking that eaisly unless they were completly cheapy, i know the mountain roads of colorado i used to drive them frequently in my 1989 toyota celica and if that junker could hold up to the abuse i know a set of tail lights should. even if they are only 40 bucks

I live between Fairplay and Alma. 20 miles south of Breckenridge! I paid $100+ for each set of taillights so they were not the $40 cheapies!! If you have ever been to "valley of the sun" then you will know the extent of the roads I live and drive on!

I live in Park County (yes that is South Park where the movie is based) and 99.5% of the roads in my county are dirt! And in really bad shape! We declared "state of emergency" last year because they couldn't keep up with the snow drifting in the roads! If my truck was not lifted I would have been high centered multiple times! I pulled out 30+ Cars and truck last year!

should start charging for that service, could pay off those mud tires and lift in no time.

but when it comes to taillights, i went with the recon LED, cost me 400. for the blacked out smoke lens LEDs. But i got what i paid for.
And i DID have to put epoxy into the support mounts, and they were not plug and play in my 08 but will be on your 05.

as for your picks id go with the black, never a carbon fiber, UNLESS its REAL. fake stuff is 4banger BS.

I personally prefer the black over the chrome.
