Default heater blows cold

Recently I've been warming up the truck for a few mins in the morn before leaving. I'll kick the heater on to defrost windshield, ect but it blows cold. However, once I've driven for a few mins the air warms up. Any ideas?

The truck has to warm up before the air will get warm. Look at the temp gauge, once it starts getting close to the middle it's warm.

yea...what jank said.

the cooling system hoses are what radiate the air blown into your car (no, it's not blowing antifreezedeathtoxic air directly into your car). Cold engine means cold coolant hoses...which therefore means cold air being fanned into car. the warmer engine gets, the warmer the hoses get, and furthermore, the warmer your heater will be.

Let's try this again,
Air is cold AFTER truck has warmed up. Obviously I wouldn't kick the heat on right after starting the truck and expect it to be warm. Basically I let the truck run for 10 mins, turn heat on, 5 mins later its still blowing cold. So I pull out the drive, and in another 5 mins it starts to warm up. This is the 1st winter I've experienced this.

it must not be fully warmed up, and theres always a little cold air in the vents at first, but not 5 minutes worth

well...it could be the heater core.

i mean, when the truck's temp guage is in the middle, is the air coming out hot?

Yes, temp gauge in middle, air still takes longer than normal to warm up. Trust me, I know all the basics- just wondered if anyone else had experienced anything similar. Probably the core like you mentioned. We'll see...

yea...i hate how long is takes our trucks to warm up. i go drive home for like 20minutes on the highway this time of year, and it's half warm...

yea, it's probably your core. cheap and easy...cheap and easy enough to just go ahead and change it to see if it makes a difference.

I let mine warm up for a few mins, that is until the temp gauge starts to move, then go. I have a 20 min drive too, once I get going though it warms up very quickly.

@ derricksmash,

You have 4.56 gears in that thing? How does it drive with them?
