Default Ball-Joint Q's? (And hopefully some A's)

So this weekend I took my ram offroading out in the desert and while driving the ball-joint came out of the socket and I just wanna make sure on what to do.

Is it possible for me to simply line up the joint and the socket and just apply enough pressure to get the ball back into it's socket, or will I need some kind of tool to do this?

OR

Am I totally screwed, have to get it towed 90 miles back to my house, and then take it to a mechanic to (hopefully) fix it with no long-term effects, or will I be able to do it myself on-site?

Any help, tips, or info is welcome.
Thanks

Where can I get a balljoint press at and how much will it run me?

Also, I doubt it will come back out at highway speeds, because it took a pretty big jolt from a pretty deep hole to knock it out in the first place.

Autozone will rent you a ball joint press for $99.00 (deposit). When you bring it back, you get your $99.00 back. How did it come out? Did the castle nut break off? It's a lot easier removing and installing a ball joint with an air chisel. Just "BRAAAPPPP" It's out!

I wouldn't drive the truck on the broken ball joint at all. Either replace it where it is now (not going to be fun), or get it towed to somewhere local to where it is and have them do it. If you try to drive it (even if you are able to get it back in), it will almost certainly come apart again, and on the highway it's going to be a really bad accident.

aaronstottle - Thank you, that's very helpful.

sos - The ball joint itself isnt broken, nor is where it connects. The ball just came out of the socket, and I need a way to get it back in. I looked it over for a good 3 hours with some buddies of mine that were out there with me, and noone could find any breaks on the ball or in the socket. The ball just got pulled out from the socket.

Keep the advice coming guys

One more question, will I have to remove the wheel in order to fix this or would I be able to save myself some trouble and fix it while the wheel is on?
