Do you guys/gals prefer auto/manual?
i love my 71 nova 4 speed with the hurst on the floor, m-22, 4:11 gears, theres no way id own it with an auto. but as for my truck, gotta have auto. especially here in a dc suburb with bumper to bumper traffic. highways lock up between 6:30-10:30 and 4-7:30 at night, no way id want to be driving my truck with a manual in any of that. i find myself making sure im not out during that time and planning my days around rush hour.
Well, considering I am physically unable to drive a manual anymore, I'm kinda glad I traded in my six-speed VW Jetta for the truck a few month prior. Driving with the fam an auto is a lot smoother, and it's so much nicer in traffic. However, given the choice (before), I would have probably always chosen a manual trans over the auto.
I had to make that choice when I ordered my truck. It came down to how I would be using the truck: hauling a camper and pulling a boat. I decided on the auto for ease/comfort of driving. My car is manual and I have pretty much always had manual transmissions, but for the truck, auto.
Don't like automatics, esp dodge automatics...
Prefer a manual, but Thiers is some things to know abought the 6sp in Dodge trucks.
Thier great, but not drag racers, built for torque, My hemi has all the power you need and for winter driving, manuals are better, if need be, you can start of in 3rd gear when traction is a issue and putting in the clutch disables the drive train quicker than shifting a automatic into N.
For off road, I would prefer a automatic but in 4low, 2nd gear my truck crawls up hills and down with ease, as for plowing, I would also prefer a automatic, torque converter can take more abuse than a clutch.
Over all I will drive a 6sp over a automatic in any situation, from plowing, towing, off road.
A hemi with a 6sp is not the drag racer you thing it is in a Ram truck, and if you know how to drive a manual, they last as long, if not longer than a automatic.
