What are common places to have rust under your truck? What's normal?

I certainly hope you're not saying you have rust on an 08! But I'd have to say a couple common places for rust in older trucks are the floorboard, wheelwells, inside the bed and the quarter panels. One way to control corrosion is to clean all the road dirt from under there with a pressure washer once a month if you're in a northern state, in your in california don't sweat it unless you live by a beach.

That shouldn't be a problem, most have rust on them unless they're aluminum or have been painted by someone after they've left the factory.

My 2006 has rust on the rear axle and the driveshaft. The frame rails are pretty good yet, a little rust is starting on the welds along the frame. I think it looks like ****, and will be painting the rusted areas in the spring.

Rear axle, drive shaft, transfer case will start first.

When I bought my 05 one of the first things I did was paint the axle and leafs. Easy to do.

rustolium(can't spell it) works really good or you can use killz.I've used both of thoose and never stripped the rust off first(unless it was really caked on)and had no problems

I had been to a swap meet / car show over the summer, and there was a booth set up where a guy was putting on a pretty good sounding sales pitch for a paint that is supposed to retard rust or change it's chemical make up some how. I think the stuff was called PR15. I'm going to try and find some of that when I paint mine in the spring.
