Hey guys. It is time for me to put some tires on my truck. I am looking for something well priced that is a little more aggresive then stock. I wil be travelling to northern MI later in the winter so I am also curious how they do in snow. Quite frankly I am afraid to buy these because they are so cheap.

PS the only offroading I do is a few times a year I have to drive out in the sand with 1000-1200 lbs in the truck. I did this this year with no problems though with the stock tires & 4wd.

 

I think you would be satisfied with the Terra Graplers, I didnt like the BFG M/T's on my dakota cause they seemed to wear funny and didn't last very long.

If you want to try the best snow/mud tire I've ever had, try Super Swamper TRXUS M/Ts. I've run BFG MTs, Cooper STTs and a few others, but the TRXUS M/Ts were hands down the best tires I ever had under any of my Dodges. The only drawback is their weight. I had 33/12.5/17s and they were 10 ply, very heavy. They had better traction at 30k than the STTs did new.

 

i had the BFG's i recomend those i got bout 47,000 miles from my set and they did very good in the mud sand and snow and they were the m/t and when i took them off they still had about another 5,000 miles left on them

 

A lot of guys in my hunting club have/had the BFG's. Very popular choice because of the price, however almost none of them went back to them when they replaced their tires. 'Nuff said...

I think he has the KM2's. They are more agressive than the original MT. I think they are supposed to handle better.

 

I appreciate your opinion. Any specific reasons? My expectations are not super high. I just need something to get me through the next year & something that is not going to kill me in the rain/snow. If they perfrorm well in mud/sand/snow to me that is just a bonus. Anything has to be better than the factory tires i am still running at 60k that are right at the indicaters.

 

Well, these are south Georgia backwoods hunter types, a little more demanding on tires. The no-no brands complained about by the hunting/fishing/off-road crowd seem to be the BFGs, Maxxis and Pro Comps, and yet they are probably the most common brands I see when I'm in the woods.
They are a decent price point, advertise heavy, and all the local tire places push them.
I know the few guys I've heard b*tch about BFGs is that they don't hold their tread well on the pavement, which is an issue with any true M/T tread, but especially with the lower price point M/Ts.
You may find that a good aggressive A/T will come in at a good price compared to an M/T and after 30k or so road miles will have enough retained tread advantage to outperform the cheaper M/Ts with comparable miles even in off-road situations.
Also, if your off-roading is primarily sand, be advised an M/T is the LAST tread pattern you want! A soccer mom all-season tread will outperform an aggressive M/T, another reason to look for a well made A/T tire instead of M/T.
The Terra Grappler, Toyo A/T or Mickey Thompson ATZ's would be a good choice. Although a little on the higher end of price, I know guys who've put 80k on Mickey ATZ's...
