Obtaining Error Codes?
Is there something different on the 2006 Ram 1500 4x4 with a Hemi? How do you obtain the error codes? I have tried all the tricks thathave worked all my other dodge and Chrysler trucks and jeeps but I get nothing with this truck. It has a Check engine light on and I would like to find out what it is.
you turn the ignition switch to on,off 3 times and on the third time leave it on and the codes will come up in the odometer window. Its on off, on off, and on and like I said, the code will come up in the odometer window. Or go to this link and it may explain it better than I can https://dodgeforum.com/forum/diy-do-...4rt10ohio.html. This is in the DIY section of this forum and it also gives you a list of the codes and what they mean. Hope I have helped some.
Hey Guys,
I looked at this thread, and also the one that's linked in Bear's post. I noticed in the other thread that the on-off trick doesn't work on the early 3rd gens.
I have a 04 with a hemi, is there a trick to get the code out of my truck? I think the newer trucks have a different odometer window, mine just has the mileage numbers, and then little words under the numbers (like 4x4, low wash, lamp out, ect).
I remember a guy showed me how to stick a paper clip into 2 ports where the diagnostic computer plugs into, to get the light to flash a code. But that was over 15 years ago, on my 84 El Camino.
I tried the key switch trick a few different times, but nothing came up. Are you turning it to the "run" position? I noticed that the odo, and the gear selector come on one notch before the run position (when the rest of the dash powers up).
Any thoughts? Thanks for your input.

You can also go to just about any chain auto parts store like Auto Zone, etc.
Most will pull the codes for you for free. Most tuners also will allow you to pull/clear codes, besides the host of other benefits you will get from one...

on off trick works on my 02 Ram 1500 Odometer comes up with code then posts "done" and goes back to odo. Takes a couple tries. 3 times of the key twist and leaving it on should do it. Keep trying.
