Custom rip out and cusom subwoofer box put in question

you should ditch the 12's and get two 10's...i had 2 alpine type r's then replaced them with 2 kicker cvx 10's..put them in the custom made box (ported) made by foxacoustics and they will pound way harder than any wood box you can buy...its the best box for quad cab rams hands down and i would like to see somebody tell me otherwise who has heard it
I have heard this exact set-up. Nothing special IMO. Atleast not compared to my Infinity's. The only way we could make them sound loud enough to be suffiecient is to turn up the Hertz, but then the bass gets really hollow and voice starts travelling through the subs.
I like bass to be as clear and clean as possible. You'll never really get that in a ported enclosure in a car, only in a house due to the cab size. I have built, heard and used every enclosure known to man. Nothing beats a properly built sealed enclosure with a quality sub. Nothing. Most audiophiles will use nothing but sealed bass encosures for a quality sound. Unless you like that drawn out bass that over shadows the musical highs, then a ported or even a bandpass box is for you.

The hardest hitting vehicle I ever sat in was a reg cab S-10 with 3 JL 10w6's. And the bass was pretty decent from what I can recall, but that was over 10 yrs ago...back in my H.S. days.
So you don't need big speakers for big bass, nor a big cab. This thing hit so hard, you could hear him drive by the school during the day (yeah, he was either a druggie or dropout) and the school was 100 yds off the road.

you can use 2" square toobing to raise your seats and thus provide more room if you wanted to spend the money on a custom box. on top of that you can cut one of two things from the storage tray (1. you can cut the lip off of the top or the tray. (2. you can cut the whole forward part of the tray with out worrying about loosing strength since the truck is obviously not a unibody except you will loose your cup holders. they are just spot welded in so a drill and a carpenters knife will do the trick. also put some sound dedning material in place of your carpet where you want the box. it will add space to make the box bigger as well as help with the accoustic resinance

http://www.extremeaudio.org/van_gallery.php This is the loudest Ive ever heard Its my cousin Mike Bartells, out of Mechanicsville, VA. He was "recently" featured on Mythbusters, theres a link somewhere on the website. He's currently the second loudest in the world.
Its funny this thread popped up today, I was just told by my wife that her and my mom are going halves on sending me up to Mikes place and getting him to set me up for my birthday (feb). I can't wait to see what he can pull off with the limited space we have in these trucks. Im thinking of going one 12", allowing the biggest box possible with most air travel, versus 2 10's. We'll see

Thanks for the input.... I already have 2 12" RFG shallow subs. They hit hard as hell but the lows just suck. I come from a comp SUV so im used to the harder bass then most people have in their pick ups. Sealed boxes are more for cars trunks spaces between you and the subs. ported is for trucks SUV's my opinon is that ported gives you a cleaner deeper bass. Id like to rip out my storage area and put in a new floor with a bigger box. wish me luck =)

I just redone my whole system with Diamond Audio Hex and Kicker. I am running 2 Kicker Comp vr 12's and KICKER ZX750.1 and have no problems with bass out of my box under the rear seats. So whom ever thinks 12's are not the way to go come over for a listen you will have a different oulook on it. Nothing against 10's or single sub but buy good stuff and bass won't be a problem whatever you get.

I replaced everything in vehicle including all new wire through the doors. I just finished a few weeks ago. Still tweaking amps but the Hex sound awesome. Clear and loud but it took some time getting them to sound just right. The highs were so high at first thought I was going to blow an eardrum. I'm running them and rear fill Diamonds off Alpine MRP-F550. Mounted Speakers on door panels wher stock werem after dynamatting and flush mounted tweets top of door panels.

I wish I could have replaced the wire through the doors, but there are factory connectors at the outer panels that you can unplug. That stopped from being able to run my wires through the door loom. I sucked it up and used the factory crap, but I gotta tell ya....It hasn't hurt the sound one bit!
